Laura Ingalls Blog Party Kickoff!

Welcome to the Little House blog party! I hope you enjoy some vanity cakes, drink some lemonade, watch some buggy races, and have fun. Thanks for joining me this week! I have a slough (Like Big Slough...) of posts planned, including some very special guest posts and a giveaway, but more on that later :) This week will be a celebration of Laura Ingalls Wilder's 149th birthday and the Little House series as a whole. I'll be putting up more of my Little House story later today. I was inspired to do this week after reading the whole Little House series from Martha to Rose last year. I enjoyed that journey immensely, and you can read about it HERE.

Vintage Little House on the Prairie Series Bookmarks (set of 3), Little House on the Praire, One of a Kind Bookmark, Vintage Book Pages

But now onto the festivities. First, a giveaway. (Thanks to Eva and Hamlette for their advice on this!) I'm giving away one set of three bookmarks made from pages of Little House books. They look awesome and vintagey :D You can see more pictures HERE. Sadly, I will only be able to ship in the US. I'm terribly sorry for my European/Australian/Antartican/Canadian/non-US pals :( Here's the giveaway!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

And NOW the best part of any blog party, the TAG! (Guys, Tag is seriously my favorite outdoor game. In elementary school we played freeze tag every single day, and in my youth group we play so intense we jump out of windows!) Lemme know in the comments when you've filled it out! I'll compile a link list and a list of my favorite answers at the end of the week! Thanks to Naomi for that lovely idea!) And if you don't have a blog and want to fill it out, feel free to do so in the comments. I want to read ALL of your lovely answers!!

(And I just updated these because of a confusing question :) Thanks Naomi!)
1. How did you discover Little House?
2. Which Little House series have you read? Which are you favorite? (Laura, Martha, Rose, etc.)
3. Have you read any "extra" Little House books? (non "canon", cookbooks, song books, craft books, little kid books, etc.)
4. Have you read any biographies/autobiographies about Laura or any of the Little House girls?
5. If you could be in any character's place, who would you choose and why?
6. What's your favorite Little House ship? (AKA couple)
7. What's your favorite Little House book? Cover?
8. If you could invite any secondary character from any of the Little House books over for dinner, who would you choose and why?
9. Have you watched the Little House TV show? If so, do you enjoy it?
10. If you could watch a YouTube miniseries on any Little House book or series, which would you choose and how would the basic plot go?

Have fun!

Finally, a few housekeeping stuff: I'm going to turn moderation off because I won't be able to do blog stuff during school. I will do my best to reply to them ALL every morning and afternoon. Just so you know :)

  1. YAY. YAAAAY. I'm so excited for this, Ashley! I'll be completing the questions as soon as possible.

One question: Are these questions, 4. Have you read any nonfiction works about Laura or any of the Little House girls?
    5. When did you discover that Little House was fiction?
Are they not supposed to be:

    4. Have you read any fiction works about Laura or any of the Little House girls?
    5. When did you discover that Little House was non-fiction?

  2. Yay! I can't wait!
No, the questions are right, I don't think I explained them very well.
Number 4 means like biographies/autobiographies/letters about the Little House girls. Fiction would probably go under 3
Number 5 I meant when did you learn that the Laura books didn't go exactly the way her life did. I'll clarify that now. Thanks for asking!

  3. Ohhhhhh, fun! Can I do the tag here in the comments, since I haven't got a blog? I hope you don't mind :-)

    1. Mmmmmmmm . . . it's been a LONG time. I think my older brother read them first and then recommended them to me. I was about 6 or 7 when I read the series (the Laura books) for the first time.
    2. Martha, Charlotte (most of them), Caroline (most of them), Laura, Rose (a few of them). The Laura books are definitely my favorite.
    3. Hmmmmmm. I don't think so? (Again, it's been a long time.)
    4. I have read a whole bunch of Laura biographies--I can't remember them all; but my favorite is definitely William Anderson's.
    5. I have to say I'd love to be in Laura's place. Because then I could get to date Almanzo, and Almanzo is just . . . awesomeness. (Plus, I would really enjoy having Charles and Caroline for parents. Not that my own parents aren't even more awesome, 'cause they are. I would just enjoy being around Charles and Caroline, at least for a little while.)
    6. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Charles and Caroline, I think. I just love their patience and sweetness with each other . . . but then, Laura and Almanzo have a very special place in my heart, too. And I've always loved Lew and Martha.
    7. Favorite book is DEFINITELY "The Long Winter." Favorite cover . . . ummmmmmmmmmm . . . Probably "Little House on the Prairie"? Just because it's so iconic.
    8. MARY INGALLS BECAUSE I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HER. There you go. That was easy.
    9. Nope.
    10. Oh, gee. This one is NOT easy. I guess . . . I would pick "These Happy Golden Years" and try to keep the plot as close to the original book as was humanly possible. (Because I love it.)

Thanks--that was a lot of fun! I'm really looking forward to this party! :-)

    1. Hey Jessica! Yes of course that's okay :D
That's so cool that your brother showed them to you! He must be very nice :)
The Laura books are most of my favorites too.
I'll have to check out that William Anderson biography!
Almanzo is awesomeness! And Charles and Caroline are wonderful parents. I love how they complement each other!
The Long Winter is a great one, and I love, love, love the cover for Little House on the Prairie!
Wow! I don't think I've met a huge Mary Ingalls fan yet! That's cool!
Those later Laura books would be great web series!
      Aww thanks for coming!

    2. He's a great brother. We both love to read, and we've shared a lot of wonderful stories over the years :-)

Yes, I would highly recommend William Anderson's biography--it's beautifully written and very thorough. I definitely enjoyed it.

I've always loved Mary--I thought (and still think!) that she's amazing. I'm so sad she went blind :-(

  4. Ooh, this tag looks fun! I don't have a blog, so if you don't mind I'll fill out my answers in the comments!

    1. How did you discover Little House? - My dad used to read the books with us. And even before that, my sister used to read the books and I would listen to her discuss them with my brother. So they've always been a part of my life :)
    2. Which Little House series have you read? Which are you favorite? (Laura, Martha, Rose, etc.) - I've read the original series written by Laura about Laura :D
    3. Have you read any "extra" Little House books? (non "canon", cookbooks, song books, craft books, little kid books, etc.) - Only biographies. Which is the next question.
    4. Have you read any biographies/autobiographies about Laura or any of the Little House girls? - Yes, I have read a biography on Laura, a biography about the Ingalls family, and a biography about the Wilder family.
    5. If you could be in any character's place, who would you choose and why? - Um, I've always really liked Carrie. And Mrs. Boast. They're so sweet and fun!
    6. What's your favorite Little House ship? (AKA couple) - Ida and Elmer. They're adorable. And I like Cap, but I don't ship him with Mary Power.
    7. What's your favorite Little House book? Cover? - My favorite book I think would be On The Shores Of Silver Lake, but I also like The Long Winter. My favorite cover is Shores of Silver Lake as well. :)
    8. If you could invite any secondary character from any of the Little House books over for dinner, who would you choose and why? - Cap Garland, 'cause he's amazing.
    9. Have you watched the Little House TV show? If so, do you enjoy it? - No, I haven't :(
    10. If you could watch a YouTube miniseries on any Little House book or series, which would you choose and how would the basic plot go? - I s'pose I would choose Long Winter, because Almanzo's and Cap's journey would be really epic :P And the plot would follow the book.

Fun tag, Ashley! This is going to be an awesome week!

The cover for Shores of Silver Lake used to be my favorite, and I love the story as well.
      YESSSS Cap Garland is UHMAZING!
Oh my word, Cap Garland and Almanzo's journey would make for some epic footage!

  9. My favorite one of Laura's childhood years is On the Banks of Plum Creek, and from the teen years Little Town on the Prairie. It's hard for me to seperate the two, it just depends on which I feel like reading.

  10. I'll have to do this tag! Lots of fun questions! My favorite Little House book is definitely, maybe, 'On the Banks of Plum Creek'. But I just thought of 'Little House in the Big Woods', so it's one of those two! I have such fond memories of both of them :)

  15. This is so exciting! Even though school has been preventing me from commenting on posts, I've made sure to read every single post. :-)

I would have to say that my favorite Little House book is Little House in the Big Woods. My parent bought the book for me when we went to Dallas when I was young. It was the first Little House book I ever read, and I have reread this book the most out of all the series.

    1. I either discovered Little House through the show or through reading Little House in the Big Woods. I can't remember.
    2. I have read all of the Little House series, and my favorite one is the Caroline years, though I do need to reread the Martha and Charlotte years because those have become fuzzy in my head.
    3. I do have the Little House cookbook and another book, but I have only looked through the cookbook, and I have not read the other book.
    4. No I have not read any biographies. It would be interesting to see how Laura's life turned out compared to the books.
    5. I think I would want to be in either Caroline's place or Laura's place. I am most like them both, so I'm not sure which one I would want to be more.
    6. Caroline and Charles!
    7. This is so hard!!! Why do I have to choose! I really love the cover of On the Shores of Silver Lake because that image with Laura with the horse is just so beautiful, and I love horses. I also love the colors and covers of Little City by the Lake and Bachelor Girl, but they don't show the beauty of the wildness and independence of Laura alone on the horse riding.
    8. I think that I would have liked to meet Mr. Edwards.
    9. Yes I have watched the show, and I love it!
    10. I don't think I would like to watch a YouTube miniseries of Little House.

    1. Thanks so much Ekaterina! Little House in the Big Woods is so cozy!
Charlotte is pretty fuzzy in my head still.
Caroline and Laura are hard to choose between!
The colors of Little City by the Lake are so beautiful. And the cover of Bachelor Girl is so well-designed, but I love Shores of Silver Lake for the same reason you do!
      Mr. Edwards!!!!
Thanks so much for answering and for your guest post :D
